摘要: Ground water is the major source of drinking in rural and semi-urban areas Assam. It contains an excessive amount iron (1 to 10 mg/L). People living Assam uses indigenous household filter units – developed using community prepared wooden charcoal (CPWC) river sand (RS) as media. CPWC RS processed respectively termed (PWC) (PS). The present work evaluates adsorptive capacity PWC PS for dissolved removal through continuous mode column studies. experiments were carried out synthetic containing Fe(II) at a fixed pH 5.5 zero oxygen levels. adsorption breakthrough curves obtained different bed depths indicate increase time with depths, while uptake ions onto adsorbent decreases when linear flow rate increases. A rise inlet concentration reduces volume treated before packed gets saturated. shows higher affinity compared under experimental conditions this study. On comparison up-scaled columns unit models same heights rate, perform better than yield throughputs. Among columns, top bottom yielded throughput initial 5 mg/L. reasonably well actual groundwater various other ionic species its ability remove fluoride, turbidity, sulfate alkalinity point Fe(II).
