Unintentional childhood poisoning in the Sharon area in Israel: a prospective 5-year study.

摘要: OBJECTIVES: To study the epidemiology and risk factors for unintentional exposure to poisoning among Jewish Arab population in Sharon area Israel. METHODS: We prospectively evaluated visits pediatric emergency department because of exposure, at Meir General Hospital. collected demographic data, substance clinical outcome poisoning. RESULTS: During 5 years study, 502 children were poisoning, 84% 16% Arabs; 88.5% occurred younger than years, with a peak incidence age 2 (39.5%). Medications including hormones, vitamins, antibiotics most common cause exposure. Most (95%) had no symptoms or abnormal findings on physical examination (84%), (85%) discharged after several hours observation. However, origin presented severe manifestations high rate pesticide There was 1 death from organic phosphate CONCLUSION: Exposure is commonly encountered children. Pesticides more community usually associated manifestations. Educational preventive programs are mandatory.
