摘要: Surface exploration is a key step in the colonization of surfaces by sessile marine biofoulers. As many biofouling organisms can delay settlement until suitable surface encountered, comprise and intermittent swimming. such, process best followed three dimensions. Here we present low-cost transportable stereoscopic system consisting two consumer camcorders. We apply this novel apparatus to behavioral analysis barnacle larvae (≈800 μm length) during extract analyze three-dimensional patterns movement. The resolution accuracy position determination are characterized. first practical result, swimming trajectories cypris larva Semibalanus balanoides recorded vicinity glass close PEG2000-OH C11NMe3+Cl− terminated self-assembled monolayers. Although less frequently used experiments due its short reproductive season, selected model species [Marechal Hellio (2011), Int Biodeterior Biodegrad, 65(1):92–101] has been following number recent investigations on behavior chemically different [Aldred et al. ACS Appl Mater Interfaces, 3(6):2085–2091]. Experiments were scheduled match availability cyprids off north east coast England so that natural material could be used. In order demonstrate biological applicability system, parameters such as direction, velocity angle performed.
