Venti: A New Approach to Archival Storage

摘要: This paper describes a network storage system, called Venti, intended for archival data. In this unique hash of block's contents acts as the block identifier read and write operations. approach enforces write-once policy, preventing accidental or malicious destruction addition, duplicate copies can be coalesced, reducing consumption simplifying implementation clients. Venti is building constructing variety applications such logical backup, physical snapshot file systems. We have built prototype system present some preliminary performance results. The uses magnetic disks technology, resulting in an access time data that comparable to non-archival feasibility model demonstrated using from over decade's use two Plan 9 systems.
