摘要: The molecular events that underlie degenerative temporomandibular joint diseases are poorly understood. Recent studies have provided evidence a variety of species, including cytokines, matrix degrading enzymes, neuropeptides, and arachidonic acid catabolites may be involved. This paper advances the theory mechanical stresses lead to accumulation damaging free radicals in affected articular tissues susceptible individuals. condition is called oxidative stress. authors postulate mechanisms involved production subsequent induction amplify damage initiated by radicals. If proposed model correct, then future therapeutic strategies directed at control stress could effective management diseases.
