摘要: Background Liver cancer continues to be a health priority in Australia, with the majority attributable preventable causes, and certain populations at higher risk. Aims Epidemiological assessment of incidence, trends distribution inform prevention, reassessment data light recent changes registry case definitions. Methods Reported cases hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) Victoria, 1984-2013, were obtained from Victorian Cancer Registry. Demographic characteristics examined, incidence survival assessed using Poisson Cox regression, geographic mapped. Incidence was compared before after inclusion non-histologically confirmed Registry assess impacts on trends. Results Diagnoses HCC rose substantially between 1984 2013, increasing sixfold 0.9 5.9 per 100 000. The rate increase year accelerated 5.3% 2003 9.5% 2004 2013. Cases disproportionately male (80%), median age diagnosis 66 years 53% born overseas. Even during 2004-2013, 5-year only 16%, although among younger people, metropolitan residents people showed strong clustering. proportion diagnosed clinically increased 1% 1984-2004 43% 2009-2013. revised definition added 993 (27.3% total). Conclusion are becoming increasingly common, estimates highlight impact definitions context changing diagnostic approaches. ongoing burden, disproportionate population low emphasise importance prevention early detection as public imperative.
