Efficacy of Toluidine Blue and Brush Biopsy in Oral Lesions

摘要: Background: Oral cancer is a global health problem and its early detection of prime importance. In vivo stains brush biopsy have emerged in recent years to aid as clinical diagnostic tools. Aims objectives: our study we assessed the efficacy accuracy Toluidine blue comparison wedge patients with oral premalignancies malignant lesions. Materials methods: The group comprised 172 subjects clinically suspicious premalignant All lesions were stained toluidine dye retention recorded photographs. Brush was done for assessment cancer. Wedge confirmation diagnosis. data thus compiled statistically analyzed using statistical software SPSS version 16. Results: present 127 cases females 45 males; among them 84.3% had habit areca nut/tobacco. Maximum (62%) seen buccal mucosa. Histopathologically 73% carcinomas, 27% benign diagnosed. showed few false positive results inflammatory Sensitivity Specificity combined evaluation 93% 95% respectively 88% 90% respectively. Positive predictive value 96%. Conclusion: Combined technique non invasive, painless outpatient procedure which has high sensitivity specificity detecting This an ideal screening tool can minimize negatives.
