摘要: In North America, electrical injuries result in approximately 20,000 emergency department visits every year. They are the most common form of occupationally related burn injury, and fifth leading cause occupational fatality United States. The purpose this study was to determine long-term sequelae low-voltage injuries. A retrospective hospital chart review conducted among patients, admitted a regional adult centre or rehabilitation between January 1, 2002 December 31, 2003, find new symptoms documented at follow-up visits. Telephone interviews were random sample these patients document that had occurred since injury. Thirty-eight 39 patient charts reviewed, one excluded because lack notes. There 35 (92%) men three (8%) women with mean age (+/-SD) 45.4 +/- 13.4 years, 8.9 10.5% total body surface area. majority (97.4%) work-related injuries, them (58%) (<1000 V), frequently flash burns (55%). Neurological (81.6%) psychological (71%) sequelae. frequent neurological numbness (42%), weakness (32%), memory problems paresthesia (24%), chronic pain (24%). anxiety (50%), nightmares (45%), insomnia (37%), flashbacks (37%) event. more (19 vs 59%) (25 group. Patients also have symptoms. Eleven interviewed, reported high incidence (82%), general (54%), (54%) symptoms, which 5.3 months, 1.7 1.5 respectively, after injury (EI). Electrical injured experience many physical their Many nonspecific, they often do not appear until several months Low-voltage EI produced than high-voltage Frequent monitoring prompt intervention progressive changes may improve physical, psychological, psychosocial recovery patients.
