摘要: Cotton fabrics were partially methylated by several methods and cross-linked with a commercial finishing agent. Methylation diazomethane to degree of substitution (DS) 0.25 or higher enhanced fabric tensile strength, tear resistance flex abrasion, compared nonmethylated comparable crease recovery angles. X-Ray diffraction studies showed that almost no decrystallization cotton accompanied methylation diazomethane, but appreciable other agents alkylation larger alkyl groups. The improved properties resulting from treatment apparently require the preservation crystallinity in as well deposition polymethylene deep within fibers. dimethyl sulfate methyl chloride did not enhance properties, nor ethyl, allyl, isopropyl, benzyl groups
