摘要: Abstract Cold water injection into a hot, fractured, geothermal reservoir may trigger shear activation of pre-existing fractures that can help to enhance permeability, but also result in unwanted seismicity. In this paper, we investigate through numerical modeling hypothetical how injection-induced cooling influence the potential for activation, paying special attention evolution deviatoric stress under various regimes. each case, consider either with homogeneous hydraulic properties or presence more permeable fracture zone intersecting well. This is oriented maximum (SHmax) minimum (Shmin) horizontal direction. Our main finding depending on configuration, stresses favor prevent reactivation preexisting fracture, and effect vary temporally spatially.
