摘要: Neuropsychiatric disorders often involve considerable psychological stress and elevated cortisol activity. Glucocorticoid receptors have relatively low affinity for are found distributed throughout the brain, particularly in frontal cortex hippocampus. In recent years, glucocorticoid antagonists been actively studied both animal models of several as well a potential treatment specific types neuropsychiatric patients. Data from these various studies reviewed with an emphasis on seven clinical or problems: major depression psychotic features, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, cognitive disorders, (e.g., Alzheimer's disease mild impairment), side effects electroconvulsive therapy, weight gain atypical antipsychotic agents. Potential benefits limitations discussed.
