Enhanced piezoelectric properties of grain-oriented Bi4Ti3O12–BaBi4Ti4O15 ceramics obtained by magnetic-field-assisted electrophoretic deposition method

摘要: We report novel grain-orientation technology, magnetic-field-assisted electrophoretic deposition (B-assisted EPD), for synthesizing bismuth layer–structured ferroelectric ceramics. Grain-oriented Bi4Ti3O12–BaBi4Ti4O15 ceramics obtained by the B-assisted EPD is shown to exhibit enhanced polarization and piezoelectric properties with a remanent (Pr) of 30 μC/cm2 an electromechanical coupling coefficient (k33) 24%, which are much superior those randomly oriented (Pr 9 μC/cm2 k33 16%). High-temperature measurements show that grain-oriented maintained value 24% up extremely high temperature 370 °C. These results will open innovative applications at temperatures above 300 °C, where commercial Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 not available due its low TC.
