An acceptance and commitment therapy intervention for a woman with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis and a history of childhood trauma

摘要: The high prevalence of psychological distress in multiple sclerosis (MS) is well established and it recognised that the beliefs people form about their neurological condition, coping mechanisms they employ, influence well-being. Acceptance commitment therapy (ACT) a third wave cognitive behavioural focuses on how relate to thoughts engage valued activities, even presence difficult emotions, fatigue, pain. To date there has been little clinical research into application ACT with MS. In this case study we report sixty-two-year-old woman secondary progressive MS who was assessed treated using an intervention. treatment involved both individual couples focused her memories childhood trauma were impacting upon current well-being relationships. Measures acceptance gathered pre-, mid-, post-treatment. At end therapy, depression anxiety scores had reduced non-clinical levels. She reported improved symptoms related thoughts, greater engagement activities. felt more able take perspective reduce impact these ability live successfully Consideration utility made, along suggestions for further developments area.
