摘要: Unsustainable agricultural policies and water soil resource schemes have drained two thirds of Mediterranean wetlands since 1920. An outstanding example is Karla in Greece, a former internationally important wetland that was 1962 causing environmental, social, problems. The objective this study to assess the functions values Karla, at three periods its history, relate them major events management resources watershed. Information on watershed features collected from historical records field visits. results showed pristine state had performed five high degree, one (groundwater recharge) moderate (flood storage) low degree. Flood-control works, uncontrolled pumping, etc., 1936--1961 degraded all except microclimate modification while, bird support function moderately altered. Drainage works left very small artificially flooded with only four an insignificant Value degradation followed degradation. It concluded past has been nonintegrated. No consideration given multiple Karla. Previous restoration proposalsmore » involved reinstatement or only. appropriate scheme for must be multiobjective based integrated own neighboring watersheds.« less
