摘要: Malaria remains one of the leading public health problems in Cameroon as other parts Sub-Saharan Africa. In past decades, this situation has been aggravated by increasing spread drug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum strains. New antimalarial drug leads are therefore urgently needed. Traditional healers have long used plants to prevent or cure infections. This article reviews current status botanical screening efforts well experimental studies done on plants. Data collected from 54 references various research groups literature up June 2007 shows that 217 different species cited for their use antimalarials folk medicine Cameroon. About a hundred phytochemicals isolated 26 some among which potential development new antiamalarials. Crude extracts and essential oils prepared showed wide range activity spp. Moreover, 137 48 families employed traditional remain uninvestigated presumed properties. The present study Cameroonian flora represents high compounds. Further ethnobotanical surveys laboratory investigations needed fully exploit identified control malaria.
