The mandatory labeling of genetically modified foods in Brazil: Consumer's knowledge, trust, and risk perception.

摘要: Since 2003, Brazilian-specific legislation has stipulated that foods containing more than 1% of genetically modified (GM) ingredients must provide information regarding their origin with an identification symbol on its label. The purpose this study was to verify the knowledge consumers concerning mandatory labeling and analyze possible motivations behind willingness consumer buy these in Brazil. Research conducted 224 different socioeconomic levels from Limeira, Sao Paulo (SP), Consumers were asked about socio-demographic variables assessed for food labels. Depending consumers' answer symbol, they would be directed a specific set assertions. In end, seventeen assertions scored using 5-point Likert scale determine profile. These categorized into five constructs: social trust, reduced price, perceived risk, quality, buy. This data analyzed Structural Equation Modelling. Most (74.6%) did not recognize used labeling, although younger age, concern GM foods, high level education increased chances recognizing symbol. Many who able identify have found difficult interpret.
