摘要: ccounts of early naturalists first suggested the richness Antarctic waters. Along with observations abundant stocks great whales, seals, and seabirds came reports sea ice floes stained discolored by algae. Although microbial communities (SIMCOs) have been observed studied for several decades, fundamental questions about their role remain. Do these represent a significant food source benthic or pelagic webs in ice-covered oceans? If so, what factors contribute to productivity? Studies SIMCOs landfast at McMurdo Sound pack region Weddell Sea are part an ongoing effort understand importance marine ecosystem physical chemical attributes habitat.
