摘要: Behavioral, anatomical and electrophysiological data are presented for three cats. One had complete removal of area 17 as evidenced by gross histological examination the remaining cortex degeneration in lateral geniculate body. Dorsal portions areas 18 19 were essentially intact much central medial interlaminar nuclei body survived. This cat excellent pattern vision. So too did a which all posterior suprasylvian gyrus, dorsal surface middle gyrus anterior marginal been extirpated. In contrast, an animal lacking most addition to 17, thus having near “total” body, was incapable discrimination. Photically evoked potentials could nevertheless be demonstrated throughout extensive field latter animal. It is concluded that not essential vision cat, but its absence, even case ablations performed neonatally, receiving major projection from nuclei, i.e., 19, required.
