摘要: Abstract. The Three Gorges Dam (TGD), located in the main stream of Yangtze River, is world's largest hydroelectric station terms installed power capacity. It was demonstrated that TGD had caused considerable modifications downstream freshwater discharge due to its seasonal operation mode multiple utilisation for flood control, irrigation, and power generation. To understand impacts regulation of the TGD, an analytical model is adopted explore how operation the TGD may affect spatial–temporal patterns tide–river dynamics the Yangtze River estuary. We evaluated effect by comparing the changes major post-TGD period (2003–2014) with those pre-TGD (1979–1984). results indicate the strongest occurred during autumn and winter, corresponding a substantial reduction wet-to-dry transition slightly increased dry season. The underlying mechanism leading changes lies in the alteration discharge, while impact geometric change is minimal. Overall, suggest pattern of sensitive TGD, so ecosystem function estuary undergo profound disturbances. obtained from this study can be used set scientific guidelines water resource management (e.g. navigation, flood control, salt intrusion) dam-controlled estuarine systems.
