SELF-SUPPORTING METAL FOILS PREPARED FROM THE OXIDES OF THE SEPARATED ISOTOPES OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS

摘要: Abstract Metallic samples of the separated isotopes Yb, Sm, Dy, Er, Nd, Gd and Lu are prepared from oxides in batches 20–40 mg by reduction vacuo with lanthanum or thorium metal powder. Foils 1–4 cm 2 large down to 0.5 mg/cm thick made cold rolling. Over-all yields 50–60 per cent 20–25 (Gd, Lu) obtained. The foils used as targets connection spectroscopic measurements a tandem Van de Graaff accelerator. Supported evaporation directly onto carbon backings.
