摘要: The status of the endemic and endangered lion-tailed macaque (Macaca silenus) has not been properly assessed in several regions Western Ghats southern India. We conducted a study Parambikulam Forest Reserve state Kerala to determine distribution, demography, macaques. laid 5km2 grid cells on map area (644km2) made four replicated walks each cell using GPS. gathered data group locations, site covariates including trail length, duration walk, proportion evergreen forest, height tallest trees, human disturbance index. also performed occupancy modeling PRESENCE ver. 3.0. estimated minimum 17 groups macaques these hills. Low detection probabilities indicated low density area. Height trees correlated positively whereas forest negatively with cells. used from earlier studies carried out surrounding Anamalai Tiger Nelliyampathy Hills discuss conservation large Landscape. This landscape harbors an population 1108 individuals macaques, which is about one third entire wild this species. A plan for could be as model other Ghats.
