摘要: Research efforts in the assessment of masonry arch bridges have concentrated on strength span direction. However, experience with these structures indicates that more often fail by sliding or overturning spandrel walls perpendicular to roadway centreline, development longitudinal cracks barrel and eventual separation spandrels from remainder barrel. The present paper reports results a 3-dimensional non-linear finite element (FE) model an bridge uses Drucker-Prager material for fill brittle masonry. predicts most truck-loaded stone will exhibit premature failure due lateral effects rather than mechanism collapse. predicted modes include local wall failures, walls, edge barrel, punching arch. Stone thin arches very low tensile strengths were be significantly weakened such effects. (A)
