摘要: Among the connective tissues, tendons are probably some of simplest in terms structure and function. The function tendon is basically that a rope transmitting uniaxial force from muscles across joints to generate movement. Tendons can often experience large loads with many repetitions, which may be part reason why they common sites injury relation sports overuse. When injured, not very good at regenerating, this property also involved increased prevalence age has been observed. This chapter provides an introduction composition mechanical properties proceeds present our current knowledge how these affected by aging. While quite few studies exist within area, variations types, species, range as well methodology provide mixed message. In spite contradictory findings, overall image appears loss load-bearing material, stiffness , strength old age. These changes relate risk but mechanisms poorly understood. For example concentration glycation cross-links increase would expected rather than reduce tissue stiffness. Further research therefore warranted, especially mechanistic level.
