Anthropometry measures and prevalence of obesity in the urban adult population of Cameroon: an update from the Cameroon Burden of Diabetes Baseline Survey

摘要: The objective of the study was to provide baseline and reference data on prevalence distribution overweight obesity, using different anthropometric measurements in adult urban populations Cameroon. Cameroon Burden Diabetes Baseline Survey a cross-sectional study, conducted 4 districts (Yaounde, Douala, Garoua Bamenda) Cameroon, WHO Step approach for population-based assessment cardiovascular risk factors. Body mass index, waist circumference waist-to-hip ratio were measured standardized methods. Overall, 10,011 individuals, 6,004 women 4,007 men, from 4,189 households, aged 15 years above participated. Based body more than 25% men almost half either or obese with 6.5% 19.5% being obese. obesity showed considerable variation age both genders. Using index provided highest (6.5%) lowest (3.2%). Among women, yielded (28%) (19.5%). There trend towards an increase age-adjusted odd ratios duration education sexes. provides current Cameroonian populations, found high prevalences particularly over 35 age, among women. Prevalence varied according measure used. Our findings highlight need carry out further studies other Sub-Saharan African appropriate cut-off points identification people at obesity-related disorders, indicate implement interventions reverse increasing levels obesity.
