摘要: Abstract Background: Catheter-based intravascular brachytherapy (IVB) sources of the next generation will have to meet high demands in terms miniaturization, flexibility, safety, reliability, costs and versatility. The radionuclide pair 114m In/ 114 In (half-life 49.51 days, maximum beta energy 2.0 MeV, average 0.78 MeV) is an attractive emitter for application such a source. Methods: Since metallic indium unfit manufacture source, feasibility, safety dosimetric properties design concept comprising linear array ceramic 2 O 3 spheres within thin-walled, superelastic Ni/Ti capsule are investigated. Results: Neutron activation enriched yields specific activity sufficiently stepping keeping treatment times limited few minutes. Although also emits some gamma radiation, effective doses received by members medical staff order magnitude lower than those from fluoroscopy. dose distributions about 40-mm line source 5-mm (outer diameter 0.36 mm) calculated using MCNP4C. Dose–volume histograms (DVHs) (centered noncentered) (centered) geometry human coronary artery. Conclusion: results show that centered with optimized dwell delivers most homogenous target volume.
