摘要: Abstract Background . Malignant pleural mesothelioma is uncommon, and presently, no standard treatment of this disease exists. The objective our analysis was to study the patterns failure for malignant after trimodality consisting extrapleural pneumonectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy. Methods Between 1987 1993, 49 patients with underwent pneumonectomy. There were two perioperative deaths, 1 patient died 5 weeks Thirty-five surviving received adjuvant chemotherapy (32/35 cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, cisplatin) followed by hemithorax Ten but therapy, Median follow-up time 23 living from date operation 18 months. Results Of 46 evaluable patients, 25 had recurrence (54%), a median first 19 months (range, 51 months). sites local in 35% abdominal 26%, contralateral thorax 17%, other distant 8%. (Some multiple simultaneously.) Conclusions most common site therapy ipsilateral hemithorax. Isolated failures uncommon. Future strategies should investigate methods enhancing tumor control.
