The phosphorylation of takes place on a serine, 14 residues the N-terminus polypeptide chain and converts enzyme form that requires adenosine monophosphate (AMP) for activity to one is almost fully active in absence this allosteric effector. glycogen synthase occurs serine only seven N- terminus transforms glucose-6-phosphate more dependent activator. at comparable rates vitro. conversion can be conveniently followed by assaying AMP.
