摘要: Research on memory in infancy has proliferated recent years with the discovery of habituation techniques and their application to study infant (e.g., Cohen & Gelber, 1975; Olson, 1976; Werner Perlmutter, press). The abilities infants are clearly considerable interest anyone concerned develop ment memory. However, it will be argued that re lated can provide only limited information about near-exclusive reliance these which characterized research date needs supple mented by a consideration other memory-related behaviors fancy. first section this paper presents critical evaluation related paradigms for studying memory, focus ing methodological substantive limitations restrict kinds derived from them. second considers existing development object permanence as an alternative source Although data subject some same work, they do permit inferences could not studies alone.
