摘要: The role of induced responses tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum, in interspecific interactions between two polyphagous herbivores, the silver- leaf whitefly, Bemisia argentifolii (WF), and vegetable leafminer, Lirio- myza trifolii (LM), was characterized laboratory field experiments. Feeding by LMs WFs local systemic production puta- tive defensive proteins, i.e., chitinases, peroxidases, B-1,3-glucanases, lysozymes. magnitude induction for each protein varied species. Unlike WFs, caused a 33% reduction total foliar content. In whole-plant choice experiment, adult LM feeding, oviposition, larval survival were reduced 47.7%, 30.7%, 26.5%, respectively, WF-infested host compared with controls. Early WF infestations also had negative (plant-mediated) effects on LMs. Adult preferred leaves from control plants to that been previously infested WFs; no reciprocal effect found. Helicoverpa zea larvae, which has shown affect performance, development. natural population dynamics monitored WF-preinfested experiment. less suitable development an overall 41% density. These results demonstrate asymmetric direct plant-mediated generalist herbivores feeding simultaneously
