摘要: To improve our understanding of the role phytoplankton for marine ecosystems and global biogeochemical cycles, information on distribution major groups is essential. Although algorithms have been developed to assess diversity from space over two decades, so far application these data sets has limited. This scientific roadmap identifies user needs, summarizes current state art, pinpoints gaps in long-term objectives deliver space-derived that meets requirements. These using ocean color estimate community structure were identified as: (a) mismatch between satellite, situ model composition, (b) lack quantitative uncertainty estimates provided with satellite data, (c) spectral limitation sensors enable full exploitation backscattered sunlight, (d) very limited applicability determining composition regional, especially coastal or inland, waters. Recommendation actions include but are not to: (i) an increased communication round-robin exercises among within related expert groups, (ii) launching higher spectrally spatially resolved sensors, (iii) development exploit hyperspectral information, (iv) techniques merge synergistically use various streams continuous sensors' ensure monitoring composition.
