摘要: Taste or gustatory function may play an important role in determining diet and nutritional status therefore indirectly impact health. Yet there have been few attempts to study the spectrum of taste dysfunction human populations. Epidemiologic studies are needed understand on public health, identify modifiable risk factors, develop test strategies prevent clinically significant dysfunction. However, measuring epidemiologic is challenging requires repeatable, efficient methods that can measure change over time. Insights gained from translating laboratory-based a population-based study, Beaver Dam Offspring Study (BOSS) will be shared. In this generalized labeled magnitude scale (gLMS) method was used intensity filter paper disks saturated with salt, sucrose, citric acid, quinine, 6-n-propylthiouracil, gLMS preferences administered. addition, portable, inexpensive camera system capture digital images fungiform papillae masked grading density were developed. Adult children participants Epidemiology Hearing Loss Dam, Wisconsin, eligible for ongoing study. The parents residents 43-84 years age 1987-1988; offspring ranged 21-84 2005-2008. Methods described detail preliminary results about distributions BOSS cohort presented.
