摘要: We investigated the occurrence of intestinal parasites in Indonesian HIV/AIDS patients with chronic diarrhoea prior to administering antiretroviral therapy. The influence age, CD4(+) cell count and season on parasite was also studied. In total, 318 unconcentrated stool samples were analysed using Lugol's iodine modified acid fast staining detect coccidia. Most (94.5%) from males aged 21-40 years counts < or = 50 cells/mm(3). Parasites found 84.3% (single species infections, 71.4%; polyparasitism, 12.9%), protozoan pathogens occurring most commonly. Cryptosporidium (4.9%), Cyclospora cayetanensis (4.5%) Giardia duodenalis (1.9%) frequent single but Blastocystis hominis (72.4%) commonly protist. C. occurred 11.9% 7.8% all mixed) infections. common co-infection B. (6.3%). Intestinal detected more frequently cases 200/mm(3). No seasonal determined for Cryptosporidium, hominis, gross disturbances may have influenced our findings. should be looked routinely this group individuals treated reduce complications likelihood transmission.
