Perceptions of Farmers in Bangladesh to Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus)

摘要: We explored the degree to which Bangladeshi farmers perceive Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) as agricultural pests, related type of farming and other demographic profile farmers. analysed size cropping patterns farms raided by wild elephants, extent nature crop loss, months crop-raiding time; elephants’ herds that caused incidents. The average loss entire crops increased with distance from park up 300 m then decreased greater distance. greatest due raiding was associated specific crops. Farmers incurred mean losses in terms cost like rice, vegetables, banana, teak. highest proportion small occurred during early evening, while financial late evening. Wild throughout most year, but were monsoon season. lost varied herd elephant responsible for duration crop-raiding. Differences found views regarding perceptions towards pest. Considering pest has been given different based on their financial/comfortable status.
