In the shadow of academic medical centers: a systematic review of urban health research in Baltimore City.

摘要: The city of Baltimore is a typical, large, urban center in the United States with several major academic medical institutions surrounded by disadvantaged neighborhoods multiple poor health indices. In order to understand extent which research agendas reflect concerns Baltimore’s local population, systematic review was conducted identify about four key, health-related topic areas. We classified papers on: disease prevalence and status, utilization services, population-based interventions, unmet needs City residents. Approximately 4,150 citations were identified search two levels screening yielded total 288 papers. majority articles (n = 189) examined conditions such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), mental disorders, sexually transmitted diseases. Papers specific target populations focused primarily on adults, African Americans, females. Despite significant body concerning priority populations, gaps knowledge services utilization, community needs, issues remain. This provides valuable insight into whether priorities have been investigated. It basis for examining potential directions centers effectively address collective, communities they reside.
