摘要: Crystallographic orientation relationships (CORs) between mineral inclusions and their hosts could potentially deliver information about inclusion formation processes conditions. Most previous studies are based on small numbers of analyses. This paper uses EBSD to study host–inclusion CORs in an inclusion-rich Permian metapegmatite garnet (Koralpe region, Eastern Alps, Austria), demonstrating the importance large data sets particular for analysis CORs. The distribution measured orientations reflects host point group symmetry 89% analyzed (total N = 530). Each phase (rutile, corundum, ilmenite) shows at least three different garnet. “Statistical” introduced describe distributions that have one or two degrees freedom with respect host, but still reflect crystal symmetry. Two end-member characteristics statistical distinguished: rotation dispersion. observed show a mixture both. COR. Multiple coexisting not restricted rutile. Re-examination garnet–rutile COR light new results indicates may been overlooked when using sets. Variation parameters correlates broad differences assumed metamorphic conditions literature samples, suggesting petrogenetic be available if can understood. favorability detected cannot explained by simple model involving minimization misfit lattice planes, implying other interface properties mechanism important controls development.
