Improved estimate of the effective diameter for use in the Kozeny–Carman equation for permeability prediction

摘要: The Kozeny–Carman equation is widely used to predict the hydraulic conductivity or intrinsic permeability of granular porous media. This paper combines discrete-element modelling and finite-volume flow simulation examine for prediction spherical grains with different grain size distributions. A comparison modelled predicted by shows that existing predicts up 20% smaller particle assemblies non-uniform sizes, especially gap-graded An improved proposed calculate effective diameter use in empirical equation.
