Sex Differences in Smoking Prevalence and Characteristics Associated with Receptivity to Quitting in Psychiatric Patients

摘要: Background: Smoking rates are elevated in psychiatric samples general, rendering smoking a significant concern this population. Moreover, women with illness may be more likely to smoke cigarettes than men, contrast the higher rate of for men general To extend our understanding individuals illness, we studied sample patients seeking treatment, most whom suffered from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), assessing history and, among current smokers, willingness contacted about cessation program. Methods. We conducted retrospective study 129 outpatients (88 women, 41 men). Seventy-eight percent was diagnosed as having MDD (53% only, 15% comorbid and anxiety disorder, 10% dysthymia). The remaining 22% were Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic variety other disorders (fewer 5% each). Results: Overall, 33% smokers 12% exsmokers.
