摘要: BACKGROUND The incidence of bronchioloalveolar carcinoma the lung (BAC), a pathologically distinct type nonsmall cell (NSCLC), appears to be rising. In this study, authors compared data on clinical presentation and courses patients with Stage IIIB IV BAC other types NSCLC. METHODS The collected clinical, radiographic, pathology information about 28 124 histologic NSCLC. RESULTS Twelve (43%) were women, 40 control (32%). Nine (32%) had never smoked cigarettes, versus 20 controls (16%) (P = 0.02). Eighteen (64%) bilateral multilobar or multicentric pulmonary involvement, 13 (15%) < 0.001). Patients advanced stage (IIIB IV) median survival 15 months from time diagnosis; for NSCLC, 10 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Patients have pathologic characteristics that distinguish them NSCLC. A greater proportion women nonsmokers present than are more likely diffuse less develop brain metastases, longer Further research is warranted define etiology, molecular abnormalities, effective therapeutic interventions.
