摘要: Ever since the discovery of Paul Ehrlich (1885 Das Sauerstoff-bedurfnis des Organismus: Hirschwald, Berlin) about restricted material exchange, existing between blood and brain, ultimate goal subsequent studies has been mainly directed towards elucidation relative importance different cellular compartments in peculiar penetration barrier consisting structural basis blood-brain (BBB). It is now generally agreed that, most vertebrates, endothelial cells central nervous system (CNS) are responsible for unique barrier, which restricts free passage nutrients, hormones, immunologically relevant molecules drugs to brain. After an era studying with endogenous or exogenous tracers permeability properties cerebral vivo, next generation, i.e. vitro model was introduced 1973. Recent advances our knowledge BBB have part made by function (CEC) this approach. This review summarizes results obtained on isolated brain microvessels second decade its advent.
