Drivers of Innovation in the Malaysian Services Sector: An Analysis Based on Firm-Level Data

摘要: Innovation in the services sector has not received much attention Malaysia though, as dominant sector, its potential role innovationdriven economy envisioned by New Economic Model is immense. This paper draws from data sourced a national-level innovation survey of service establishments to investigate frm-level drivers innovation. Though both defnition and variables likely drive it were proscribed data, fndings are interest, even if comprehensive. Nearly half 303 frms (drawn fve major subsectors) sample innovating with majority reporting improvements quality or cost products processes. Developments new lines fling patents copyrights less common. Innovators more be that collaborated R&D other agencies, frm accessed technology parent companies those supplier-relationship MNCs. Communications least innovative while there no significant differences behaviour among firms four subsectors. Important policy implications discussed based on these findings.
