摘要: The intensive care unit (ICU) is not only a place where lives are saved; it also site of harm and iatrogenic injury for millions people treated in this setting globally every year. Increasingly, hospitals admit the sickest patients, although overall number hospital beds remains stable United States, percentage that total devoted to ICU rising. These 2 realities engender demographic imperative address patient safety critical setting. This article addresses medical community's resistance adopting culture with regard issues surrounding sedation, delirium, early mobility. Although there currently much research quality improvement area, most what we know from these data published guidelines has become reality day-to-day management patients. intended provide comprehensive review literature but rather framework rethink our outdated by employing Maslow's hierarchy needs, along few novel analogies. Application will help propel health professionals toward whole person merely survival restoration pre-illness function mind, body, spirit.
