摘要: The major surface antigen of Pneumocystis carinii, a life-threatening opportunistic pathogen in human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients, is an abundant glycoprotein that functions host-organism interactions. A monoclonal antibody to this protective animals, and thus good candidate for development as vaccine prevent or control P. carinii infection. We have cloned sequenced seven related but unique genes encoding the rat carinii. Partial amino acid sequencing confirmed identity these genes. Based on Southern blot studies using chromosomal restricted DNA, glycoproteins are products multicopy family predicted protein has M(r) approximately 123,000, relatively rich cysteine residues (5.5%) very strongly conserved, contains well conserved hydrophobic region at carboxyl terminus. presence multiple msg suggests antigenic variation possible mechanism evading host defenses. Further characterization should allow novel approaches pathogen.
