Soil Degradation in Marginal Areas: Perspectives of Farming Communities of Semi-Arid Areas of Katsina State, Northern Nigeria

摘要: The farmers’ views on indicators and causes of soil degradation the measures used in conserving fertility was investigated Household survey, key informants interview; focus group discussion field observation were data collection. result indicate that farmers have array for assessing extent their farms also identified explained the  causative factors responsible phenomenon. Majority prefer to use agronomic/biological conservation compare mechanical which require a lot materials hence costly, difficult make maintain. It is found individual are influenced by many factors, thus when planning any programme remediate must be cognizance differences environmental knowledge holistic perception problem.
