摘要: Recently, we reported on the processing of 50 vol.% Ti2AlC-nanocrystalline magnesium, nc-Mg, matrix composites using a pressureless melt infiltration method. Herein report with up to 80 Mg. These are readily machinable, relatively stiff, strong and light, exhibit ultrahigh damping. Increasing nc-Mg volume fraction leads lighter higher damping characteristics at lower stresses (~30% mechanical energy is dissipated 250 MPa). In some cases Mg nanograms also extraordinarily thermally stable which renders these good candidates for applications temperatures than ambient. Due simple inexpensive technique used fabricate novel nanocomposites, it possible produce samples as large ones made via normal powder metallurgy methods.
