摘要: Vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in the United States has exhibited an upward trend over time similar to that observed for gross domestic product (GDP) and personal income. Although conventional wisdom suggests economic growth leads more driving thus higher VMT, it is theoretically possible causation could be other way around. If from VMT GDP, a directive legislation such as Federal Surface Transportation Policy Planning Act of 2009 reduce national per capita annually have adverse impact on overall activity. This study uses times series techniques test empirically Granger causality between various measures activity time.
