摘要: Abstract Ultra-thin asphalt overlay has been widely applied in both new pavement construction and road maintenance. It brings better driving comfort by providing superior skid resistance lower traffic noise. However, most cases the functional performance is not durable under repeated vehicle loading abrasion. By simultaneously optimizing material properties, gradation design technology, this study proposed a novel of ultra-thin named “High-toughness Friction Course (HUFC)”. The based on improved CAVF (Coarse Aggregate Voids Filling) method. nominal maximum size aggregate HUFC 8 mm, layer thickness 1.0–1.5 cm. HUFC-8 uses high-viscosity high-elasticity binder as bonding for aggregates, emulsified to bond with layers. A series laboratory field tests were performed evaluate mechanical HUFC-8. Laboratory test results showed that exhibited excellent noise reduction function. Moreover, enhancement from interlocking effect coarse increase film made more fatigue cracking. Based evaluation, had strong good flatness restoration when low smooth. successfully over 100 projects south China since 2017. makes it promising paving technology larger-scale applications.
