摘要: This thesis investigates interactions between Pavlovian and instrumental processes. The first chapter provides an evaluation of various theoretical analyses how these two processes might interact in the context types phenomena: Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer (PIT) renewal responses that have been extinguished. It is argued conditions under which both phenomena are observed do not sit readily with offered for them. Chapter 2 reports three experiments examined outcome-selective general PIT occur rats. Outcome-selective was increased by procedures should increase distinctiveness outcomes; but more likely to be outcomes low (Experiments 1-3). 3 contrasted standard stimulus-outcome-response analysis a novel based on mediated stimulus-response associations directly affect test performance (i.e., without outcome becoming activated during test). Experiment 4 demonstrated effect when (O) embedded conditioned stimulus (S), Experiments 5 6 showed after backward pairings O-S) than forward S-O). These results consistent following analysis: Instrumental training establishes response-outcome outcome-response associations, subsequent conditioning provokes its associated response thereby allows stimulus–response association acquired. then generates at test. 7 provided direct evidence support the ix assumptions upon this relies. results, together other paradoxical effects relationship, incongruent accounts rely chain. explored another instance where stimuli exert powerful influence performance: case renewal. Two fundamental issues were addressed: whether or responsible effect, renewed controlled goal-directed associations.
