摘要: While video streaming algorithms are a hot research area, with interesting new approaches proposed every few months, little is known about the behavior of deployed across large online platforms that account for substantial fraction Internet traffic. We thus study adaptive bitrate in use at 10 such diverse target audiences. collect traces each player's response to controlled variations network bandwidth, and examine algorithmic behavior: how risk averse an algorithm terms buffer; long does it takes reach stable state after startup; reactive attempting match bandwidth versus operating stably; efficiently available bandwidth; etc. find exhibit wide spectrum behaviors these axes, indicating lack consensus one-size-fits-all solution. also evidence most tuned towards rather than fast adaptation variations, some visual perception metric bitrate-based metric, many leave surprisingly amount unused.
