摘要: Abstract In the present study, experimental results recorded from a series of tests are presented, which examine dynamic response and failure thin rectangular plates struck transversely at centre by wedges. The cut mild steel with five different thicknesses 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 4.0 mm two sizes 280×190 280×130 mm2, to make ratio thickness average value length width ranging 4.26×10−3 17.02×10−3. impact velocity ranges 2.45 10.45 m/s, producing an energy varying 76 2865 J. drop wedge is chosen as 40 120 mm. It has been observed that through-thickness in-plane tearing (tensile) crack initiated ends contact line directly under tip wedge. cracks propagate rapidly inwards along finally join together. Once formed whole line, opens further through out-of-plane (shear) perpendicular each for severe cases. found critical required onset varies significantly plates.
