摘要: Objective: To determine the incidence of poison center calls involving elderly, characterize these poisonings, and compare them with poisonings that occur in people younger than 60 years age. Design: Concurrent, observational survey. Setting: The Virginia Poison Center Richmond, Virginia. Participants: All persons age older who were involved a exposure reported to from October 1, 1991 through March 31, 1992. Measurements: Incidence, type, route, location, management site, medical outcome exposures reasons for exposures. Results: Exposures accounted 2.3% all during 6-month study period. These most likely involve women unintentionally ingested extra doses medications. majority occurred home resulted either no effect or minor effects. For those necessitated an emergency room visit, elderly more be admitted hospital (P < 0.05). Conclusions: are unintentional may amenable prevention education.
